POSITION Rehabilitation Integration in Nepal Case Study ConsultationDURATION September 2023 January 2024LOCATION Kathmandu, NepalProject Background The Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator (Accelerator) is a global initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through a Cooperative Agreement, with co-funding from the Bill amp; Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). Its goal is to strengthen institutions and processes, build local expertise, and support countries as they co-create, innovate, and adapt, to build more effective and sustainable health system interventions on their journeys to self-reliance. The program’s approach supports local partners as they lead implementation and find their own pathways to meaningful and lasting health systems change. The Accelerator is led by Results for Development.
Case Study of Nepal’s Approach to Integrating Rehabilitation into its Health SystemAs interest in and acknowledgment of the importance of the accessibility, availability, and quality of rehabilitation services within health systems grows globally, and more low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) launch new or renewed efforts to pursue rehabilitation integration, there is an increasing need to generate and share lessons about this process. In response to this dearth of evidence, the Accelerator has developed a study to document how LMICs are undertaking the challenge of integrating rehabilitation into their health workforce infrastructures, health financing mechanisms, health information systems, and governance structures and processes, towards the goal of improving rehabilitation service delivery.Scope of Work

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on rehabilitation and the health system in Nepal; help provide context and background information through regular meetings with the Accelerator team and identify/obtain important contextual documents and resources.
  • Identify and forge connections with relevant stakeholders to serve as key informants and coordinate introductions with the Accelerator team.
  • Serve as a local point of contact with the USAID/Nepal Mission, including meeting in person as needed/required by the Mission.
  • Help the Accelerator team plan a data collection trip to Nepal; advise on any necessary authorizations (outside of NHRC clearance), schedule interviews, and advise on internal transport/logistical considerations.
  • Accompany the team to interviews and assist with interviews as needed, including serving as a translator from English to Nepali when applicable.
